FUE Hair Transplant Method
Hair transplant is a lasting cure for baldness in both men and women. The natural hair that results after the process of hair transplant is a permanent one, irrespective of aging.
History of Hair Transplant
The history of hair transplant can be dated back to Turkey in 1897 when Dr.Menahem Hodara made the first attempt towards a successful hair transplant. However, in 1952, Dr. Norman Orentreich carried out the first transplant surgery for male baldness in New York. Since then, hair transplant has witnessed a significant development with lots of innovations towards a better process.
Understanding Hair transplant
In recent times, there is a surge in demand for a reliable and permanent hair transplant process. Dermatologist, therefore, has come to define hair transplant as the ‘’transfer of healthy hair follicles from donor to recipient’’. The recipient is the region of the body where baldness is predominant. The key donor area is the back of the head, but in some cases where the patients do not have enough hair at the back of their head, doctors make use of healthy hair follicles from the chest and beards. There are several types of hair transplant which includes beard transplant, eyebrow transplant and even transplant on a scar skin.
There are two basic methods to Hair transplantation; The follicular Unit transplantation (FUT), and Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE).
- Follicular Unit Transplantation –it is the conventional method of hair transplant. It involves the transfer of tissues from the donating site to the recipient with the use of stitches at the end of the process. However, FUT is no longer applicable in the modern world, because it leaves a linear scar on the donating site due to the stitches.
- Follicular Unit Extraction –this process is the single extraction of the hair follicle from the donating region (back of the head) to the recipient part (where baldness occurs), without the use of stitches. It is a transparent, hassle-free process that does not place any scar on the area.
We make use of the FUE, which is an advanced form of Hair Transplant.
FUE Hair Transplant: Procedures and Results
The process starts with the application of local anesthesia to the donating region, which will subdue any pain that might arise due to incisions. The next step is to extract the hair follicle (graft) from the donor area with the use of micro-motor or manual punch. The follicles get extracted individually, and each graft (Hair follicle) can have up to double or multiple hairs.
After extraction, a micron incision is created on the recipient area with the use of a sapphire tool. After incision, the grafts (hair follicle from the donor area) are implanted with the use of forceps or implanter pen into the recipient areas where the incisions took place.
Follicular unit extraction is painless, and patients can engage in other activities during the process.
Is there Any Pain or Distress During The Hair Transplant Process?
No. In the case of FUE, patients do not feel any pains during and after the process, except the mild discomfort which occur when injecting the anesthesia. However, this can be replaced with a “needle-free injection.”
We apply the needle-free technique for patients with needle phobia.
What Happens During The First Days After Hair Transplant?
As soon as the transplant is completed, patients can comfortably go back to their residence and remove the bandages after 24 hours. Similarly, patients will not wash the hair within three days after transplant.
When Will My New Hair Grow?
Hair growth occurs within three months after the transplant, and this starts with soft, little growth, but thick and remarkable hair begins to develop after six months. Generally, substantial hair growth process occurs between 6 – 12 months after transplant depending on the patient.
